Caseous Lymphadenitis

I am hearing, from other sources, that more goat breeders are vaccinating their goats against a bacteria called caseous lymphadenitis using vaccines called case-bac or autogenous CL. Should I be Vaccinating my herd yearly as well? Has anyone seen or herd of this bacteria?

Re: Caseous Lymphadenitis

the problem with vaccination is that it will interfere with future test results. means, if a goat is vaccinated she will always test positive. i would rather buy from herds that tested negative and never had an abscess in their herd. second problem is the vaccine does not protect 100%.
if you want to buy a new goat, have a good look at her, go with your hands over her body, pay special attention to areas where the lymph nodes are. any scar in this area could indicate that there has been an abscess earlier.
there are herds that have to deal with this disease and i think for those the vaccine might help to control and prevent future outbreaks.
good luck what ever your decision might be
