Need help! I have little tiny reddish brown ants crawling out of the electrical outlet at our kitchen counter. they trail very slowly in a line to the sink. we have sprayed and sprayed, they leave for a few days then come back. What could we do???

Re: little ants

Hi Erin,

First the source needs to be found outside and treated with an insecticide labeled for ants. Look for ants trailing on the outside of the house and look for tree limbs touching the house (ants will use this as a 'highway' to your house). Next, ant bait needs to be applied behind the switch plate (outlet) where they are trailing from.

good luck!

Re: Re: little ants

The ants you describe are Pharaoh ants. These ants are very adept at living inside your home. Regular sprays will, I'm afraid, only give temporary relief then the problem will return in greater numbers. You must use only baits with these ants, and if you've already been using sprays, it will take some time.

Pharoah ants have relatively small (for ants) number of members in thier colony but do have multiple queens. If stress is placed on the colony, like foragers not returning because they died from bug spray, then a queen or two will "bud" off and start a new colony. This can go on expotentially.

A sugar based liquid or paste bait usually works the best.
