Nine Minute Starting Times for President's Cup

In an effort to eliminate the wait on the 3rd hole, and in cooperation with Tallwood Management, we will experiment with 9 minute starting times for the upcoming President's Cup weekend, Sept 15 & 16.

New times have been posted on the board, and a Tallwood Tee will be sent out with the comparison sheet of the new times.

Our committment is to get the last group to finish in 4:30. Playing at a good pace does not have to take the fun out of the event. Just use common sense, "ready golf" when reasonable, and stay aware of your position on the course.

Thanks in advance to everyone for their cooperation.

Re: Nine Minute Starting Times for President's Cup

Pace of play improved over the weekend (Presidents Cup).If I remember correctly the last group came in at just under 4 1/2 hrs. on Sunday. One thing I believe definitely helped, in addition to the 9 minute starting times, was making sure each group adhered to their starting times.

Re: Nine Minute Starting Times for President's Cup

I played in foursomes that were at the back of the pack on both Saturday and Sunday (I think we were the second to last Men's Club group both days). On each day, I am fairly sure that the last Men's Club group was able to finish their round in 4:30 or less. The pace of play was less stressful and more conducive to enjoyable golf than many rounds I have played this year at our club. There also was another variable in play on Saturday with all of the rain (especially for the groups that played early) that leads to club cleaning, grip drying and umbrella opeing and closing often contributing to slower rounds of play. Even with this factor, the last Men's Club group still finished in four and a half hours. We started at 9:41 on one day and 9:50 the next. With eight minute starting times, we would have teed off at 9:20 and 9:28 according to the chart distributed by our honorable Tournament Director. I honestly believe our completion times would have been virtually the same even if we had started at the earlier times. However the additional 20-25 minutes would have undoubtedly added to the frustration level of our foursome.

I appreciate that Tallwood management was willing to attempt this trial and hope that it will be considered again for future events. It would be interesting to receive some feedback from groups that played at various times this past weekend to find out how they felt about this. In particular, for those that played very early did any of these players think there was too much time between groups? If so, perhaps a another trial could be considered in which early times (perhaps up until 7:12 or 7:20) use eight minute starting times, then "middle groups" stagger {I know quite a few members who can stagger with the best of them} between alternate eight and nine minute starting times and the later groups (perhaps after 8:15 or so) get sent off with nine minutes between their starting times. I am guessing about where to draw these lines, but think that it would be worth further experimentation.

Re: Re: Nine Minute Starting Times for President's Cup

I plated very early, 6:50, I think it was the 2nd group of the day. We finished in about 3:50, which is about what you would expect for that time of day. We were slightly behind the preceding group most of the day - kept them in sight but never had to wait. Pretty sure the group behind us never had to wait.

So, now we've heard from the extremely early and late times, I wonder what the experience was for those in between ?

I teed of around 8:45 both days and finished in around 4:10, a far cry from the 5 - 5 1/2 hours of earlier majors
