'Southron English 101: Coke, Soda or Pop?'
n this video we show the way that the people of Dixie describe a carbonated beverage. There are a number of different ways to describe this in North America - just as there are in Europe. Here is a short explaination and description of the way it is traditionally said in Dixie. Deo Vindice 'Southron English 101: Coke, Soda or Pop?' I don't care if it was Coke, Pepsi, 7-UP, Cheerwine, Mr. Pibb or what, we called it Coke and still do to this day

I wonder if that's common all over the South or if it's more prevalent the further east one goes in the South. I grew up calling it pop in eastern Oklahoma, but maybe some folks call it Coke in this region, too, for all I know. A guy I knew from upstate NY while in the Navy called it soda. |

Not sure Rodney. Perhaps. We don't ever say 'pop' though in particular - if you hear someone say that in my town you instantly know he or she is an outsider/Yankee. lol In South Carolina though we don't use the word 'guy' traditionally or 'upstate' - we say 'fellow' and 'upcountry.' Just some more differences there. |

Yo, dudes, youse guys tawk funny. Just kidding. I had some Dutch ancestors born on Long Island, New York, in the late 1600's; they later moved to Virginia. And the only time I've been in NY is between airports while in the Navy.
