i am a new fan of michael wincotts. I have gone site searching and found michaels height to be anywhere between 5 foot 1 and 6 foot 2. I observed in the movie THE DOORS that, with bad posture, michael wincott stands nearly as tall as the 6 foot val kilmer. I have a different question for brandy, the site owner, there is a 14 minute long video called "the making of along came the spider" it is all the characters in the movies as themselves, i think this would make a great addition to your site. Also there is a book called THE CROW< THE STORY BEHIND THE FILM by bridget baiss , i have heard it has some information about michael wincotts personality. ANother book entitiled THE CROW CITY OF ANGELS on page 25 is supposed to have some info on him, these too i think would be wonderful additions. Just to second Tias' remarks above...although this book got negative reviews on Amazon, I think it's worthwhile reading for any MW fans. It has some very nice, personal reminisnces by crew on the set of the film. Anecdotes about how they came up with Top Dollar's costume/hair extensions, etc. He was held in very high regard by the crew and other actors. One very interesting factoid: the cast was paid between $1500 (equity scale, or minimum) and $3000 a week salary. MW's role was finished filming early -- he was already gone when Brandon Lee was killed -- so the MAX he would have been paid for this role was approx. $21,000...and that's before deductions, paying his agent, etc. I have to say I was surprised it was such a modest amount. I would have guessed about 10X that much.

If you have a broader interest in "The Crow" than Top Dollar, it was also interesting to hear the real story of how exactly Brandon Lee was killed...

I located this book easily at my public library, but you can order it used for around $8.

I'm slow responding as I've been busy working overtime lately. I am working on fixing broken links and even adding a few that have been sent by vigilant Wincott fans.

I hope to get the books mentioned as "The Crow" is one of my favorite movies not only because of Michael. But any more interviews and/or comments I can get on Michael the better. It may be awhile, but I hope to get the other books and add it to my growing "Wincott" collection. Thanks for all the input.

According to IMDB.com, Morgan Freeman is 6'2.5"....mind you, the same source says that MW is also 6'2". So it's not exactly the alpha and omega of information.

I don't think he is either 6'2" OR 5'1" (as in the tashi tagg article from South Africa, despite the personal reference). I think -- after seeing him in numerous films standing next to various other actors -- that Brandy is pretty much right on the money...about 5'8", give or take an inch.

NOTE: If I am not mistaken, tomorrow is Michael Wincott's 45th birthday.

Seems somebody is paying attention. I just went to IMDB.com and they have Michael listed as 5'9" (1.75m). Wonder if they have a 'mole' among the Wincottians? They had his birthday listed as 01/06/59 for the longest time. I confirmed with his agent (then with his brother) and sent IMDB an email regarding the actual date and they changed it. However, I am not the one that corrected them on his height. Makes one go "hummmmmm?"

And yes, January 21st is his Birthday. I'll have to put up a birthday banner on the front page when I get home!

IMDB.com JUST changed that info, BTW, because when I responded to the question about Morgan Freeman, I double checked both pages and it was STILL wrong. That was...yesterday. It's nice to know that somebody does double check and correct this stuff from time to time.

so like here is my conspiracy theory on michael's height. Maybe he is really short but the casting directors higher even shorter people to make him appear to be taller teehee. For real though, i have the movie metro, and there is this guy, he plays like a 30 second part as the bail lawyer for michael wincott. Michael is a frickin foot taller than him. I wish i could find out that guys height and make a comparison, maybe he was a runaway circus midget?

Hi, Adam. Been lurking, have you??? I'm taking it you are male? Welcome, not too many male Wincott fans chat. But that's understandable. You don't necessarily want to listen to women drool about an actor! LOL Course, there are the serious conversations regarding his talent.

But honest, welcome and it's great to have a man post once in awhile, besides my obnoxoius son, who uses my guestbook as an email service.

We all know we can't rely on IMDB.com to be 100%, but they have Viggo Mortensen listed as 5'11". The pictures I have of Michael and Viggo certainly indicate Michael as shorter by a couple of inches. So, 5'9" isn't too far fetched. I tried finding other pictures with him standing next to people of known height, but the women could be in heels and I don't know most of the men I have pictures of Michael standing next to.

The world may never know.

Although I am not gay I also appreciate the physical aspect of MW - in terms that I would like to look like him.
So I am not bothered by discussion about his features, height etc.

Right I've made a discovery.Sigourney Weaver is 6ft,and in one of the candid photos Michael is up to her ears even when he is one person away,so he can't be that small if he is up to her ears!!!

yeah i noticed that too on a video, michael is shorter than sigourney. but hell isnt winona ryder really small?? anyways, let's say sigourney is 6 feet. so Michael must be 5'7-5'9 :) really nice i am 5'7 i like men to be taller than i am..

I found somewhere he's 5'10" though yeah, across from Morgan Freeman he looks pretty small. Actually...looking at the perspective given in the Three Musketeers, he is pretty small.
