Rentboy Saunas in Rio
Oi,
I am coming to Rio in November from New York. I hear some of the better rentoboy saunas are in downtown Rio, which I understand can be quite dangerous. Can you recommend some that are worth taking the chance for.

http://gaytravelbrazil.com/ explains the sauna scene. There is a sauna with rentboys downtown. I think it's called meio mundo. I haven't been there. However, if you're concerned about your surroundings, the 2 in Copacabana are probably best for you: Estacao and Point 202. In Brazil, you go to saunas in the late afternoon right after work (not late at night). So I wouldn't worry about your safety.

Meio Mundo was quite disappointing. Only one working guy on the night I went - which was reputed to be a good night of the week (Monday or Tuesday). Much, much better is Spa 73 in the Praça Bandeira section (close to the Estácio de Sa metro stop). In fact it's probably my favorite sauna in Rio. Very "guy next door" types. Not the over-worked pros you find too often in the zona sul. Take a cab. The streets are a little confusing and the working-class neighborhood a little dicey, although I've never had a problem. The ladies that run the place will arrange a taxi to get you back.

There is a good one in a neighborhood called Gloria, the name is 117. The street is CANDIDO MENDES, take the subway and get off at gloria station, if you follow to the Lapa direction turn the first left street. In the corner of Gloria Street and Candido Mendes there is a drugstore!
