Carnaval: where to stay and suggestions for travelling around

Hi guys,
I'm an athletic young Dutch guy travelling to Rio for Carnaval. As far as accommodation is concerned, there's a lot of choice but seeing as i'm travelling alone i'm looking for something not too expensive. Any suggestions? Also would love to travel around before and after Carnaval. What are must-sees that are easily combined with the one week of Rio? :-) Thanks for your info and help!

Hi Marco,

Rio is much more of what you see in the travelogs, and during carnval you can see blocos (a bunch of people perfoming samba in the streets, and sometimes this bunch of people are more than 5000 people.

When you explore Rio with a local, you will be surprised of so many things this hot city has to offer, I can give you more details, and please read alot of RGL, there are unique informations here in this page!

And it will be my pleasure to clarify any doubts you may have!

Great Country! You will love it, especially coming from Holland. Try to take a nice bus down to Sao Paulo just to see the super highway and that huge city. The city is not really a tourist destination, but is amazing just the same. Soooo big. If you have the time, Iguazu Falls, but it is a plane ride away and you have to get to the Argentine side. Hate to say this, but I did not like Carnival as it was COLD and RAINING, but you will have better weather. Do all the tourist things and hook up with a good Brazilian who will show you the rest. Good food, drink, men, women, and those not too sure. Usually a few blocks back off the beach are less expensive and available hotels, but I do not want to recommend any now as they change. I hope someone helps you there.
