Poisinous Bedding

My name is Dean wissmann and I am 11 years old. I received a guinea pig 18 months ago as a gift. Last week she died. After doing some reserch I believe she died from the cedar bedding in her cage. I would like to know why it is not noted on the bag that this product can be dangerous to some guinea pigs? I would have never purchased this if I knew it would harm her.
I hope this letter can help someone else, before it happens to them.

Re: Poisinous Bedding

Cedar and pine are no good because of the oils they have in them called phenols i believe. They cause respiratory infections. The one I like is Kaytee Soft Sorbent. Or Hartz makes little cage liners just like wee pads for puppies.

Awwww....sorry guy. Thats too bad. That is what I have been using in our cage, and you are RIGHT it doesnot say on there anywhere that it might hurt your guinea. I am going to change ours out right away, we just liked the smell of the cedar so that's what we used. They are in pine at the pet store... We live in nowata, and i beileve we are getting ready to have babies...your name sounded familiar, if you live round this area email me, I will let you pick a baby if you would like another friend...
Good Luck
