Re: every angel

You're among friends here! I agree. I have never seen them live and have been a fan since 1988! Still my band though. Wish I had seen them when I had a chance. I was in the AAE Fan club mag though (asking questions about green issues!) in 1989! A very proud moment!

Re: every angel

Sharon, this lot are lazy b*****ds - unless you post the link, they probably won't check it out
Is it this one?

If so, very nice - and not at all Korean.

Oi! Less of the lazy!

I did check it out, and I assumed it was the same one you linked to. Very nice.

Re: every angel

That was excellent - I especially like the end where you sit down with what appears to be a can of Red Stripe! I think a cover of Wildflowers is in order...

Re: every angel

bless you all so much for having a look, i really appreciate it.their music isnt so easy to do & really it should be left alone. would love to do songs like wildflowers but tim was was a bit to talented on that guitar & as for the vocals, too angelic. i know marthas harbour isnt even in standard tuning. all very clever music.

Re: every angel

Top tip of the week: for Wild Flowers & Martha's Harbour, tune the guitar down a whole tone

Re: every angel

I don't think even MW-P ever played Martha's Harbour properly! Video doesn't help much. Think it's best with a capo on the 3rd fret and at some higher fret so that the fourth note, same as the third, is on an open string, but feel like a total pseud now, haven't tried for years and definitely a third-rate guitarist, unlike your guy Sharon.

Tell you what's fun though - opening of December - pure guitar heaven.

Re: every angel

the intro to december gives me goosebumps.shame lots got chopped off for the single. is what kind of fool in standard tuning? what were the reasons they did some songs that way?

Re: every angel

I feel a tutorial coming on...
A lot of Mister Tim's acoustic numbers are standard tuning but dropped a tone - I assume it's so they fit Julianne's range better.
Martha's Harbour is played in this tuning - start with finger 3 on string 3, 11th fret and finger 2 on string 4, 10th fret. Alternate with string 2 open and fretted (by finger 1) at the 9th fret.
Oh b*gger it, I'll do a diagram.

nut
o|------------
o|------------
|---------2--
|----------3-
|--------1---
o|------------

Then the second phrase of the verse is this:

nut
0|------------
o|------------
o|-------4----
|-----1------
|-------3----
o|------------

i.e. open strings except for 2nd string (3rd finger, 8th fret) 3rd string (1st finger, 6th fret) and 4th string (4th finger, 8th fret)
Erm, did that make sense to ANY-body?

grrr

The vertical line below the nut should be a straight line, obviously - the techno-pixies ignored my little spaces

Re: every angel

thankyou for that. we tried marthas harbour in the standard tuning first.not half as pleasant to sing. makes all the differance when the tuning is dropped. can see why they did it now.

Re: every angel

I love the songs and if we could but get permission from who knows where(?) we'd love to cover that song!!

Try finding chords for it though........nigh on impossible and I've tried to work out the playing from the record bu there are about 3/4 overdubs(?) which restrict the picking out of chords to my (*******) ears.

Any one have the chords handy?

One of my musical ambitions is still to get Julianne to sing on one of our songs, but sadly we ain't worth the millions it would take to employ such genius.
