A review has come out on my book. I agree almost completely, although the reporter thought the inspiration in my book was a little overdone. I, of course, do not agree as I feel that Latter-day Saints across the board do not rely on inspiration as much as we should. Indeed, as we face the obstacles, trials and tragedies of life we can choose to "soldier on" without any divine help or we can reach for that always outstretched hand and walk that path with assistance. The story in this book came from my love of writing and reading romantic suspense. The way I handled the more delicate religious matters was "tastefully done" as Ms. Hansen put it, but was also a way to introduce to the reader at large the way inspiration can begin to work in their lives. It was not deliberate, but once the story was completed I could see that was indeed what I had done.

The world of fiction has long produced books with heavy Catholicism and Judaism content with scarcely a blink from the reader. The age has dawned where LDS writers can now introduce, tastefully intertwined with a good story, who and what we are all about. Again, although the religious aspects of the book were not deliberate but flowed from the story, I am curious to know all your thoughts on this subject and its relation to LDS fiction. |
