i need a bit of help on la Valse d'Opelousas (Amedé Ardoin/ Geno Delafose) that I just found out is also la Valse de St. Landry (Joe Falcon/Austin Pitre).
I'm trying Geno Delafose's version which it seems to be the most straight forward one. i know it's a fairly simple valse but that second part drives mad. I can't figure out the pattern, which in Geno's version seems to be a simple arpeggio. I just need a point of depart . I suppose from there on i can figure out the variations that Mr. Ardoin does or the more cajun-second-part on Austin Pitre.
thanks for the help in advance. If someone can point out other versions it will be more than helpful
Valse des Opelousas, other versions :
Amédé Ardoin/Dennis Mc Gee
Kevin Naquin
Sacaulait
B.S. Ardoin/C. Fontenot
Scotty Pousson
Tasso
Eddie LeJeune
Les amis de la Louisiane
I know also an interesting similar version (Two-step des yeux) in two-step by "T-Monde" sung by Drew Simon.
Valse de St Landry similar version "valse de dimanche après-midi"
Duson Waltz-Aldus Roger
Bayou Chene-Iry Lejeune
La Valse De St. Landry-Austin Pitre
La Valse De St. Landry- Joe Falcon
Dimanche Apres Mide-Bois Sec Ardoin
Probably more. Jesse Lege recorded a La Valse De St. Landry that is a different tune.
I found some of those versions already. You're right Bryan about the name. i was surprised not to find this waltz played in youtube under the name of Opelousas or St.Landry. Suddenly you change the name and....voilá. Magic!
All versions fairly similar. That will help the work on that second part
