Whenever I play in C on my fiddle, I just switch to the middle two stings. My playing style is very limited.

I was trying Danse de Limonade the other day, and that felt VERY doable for my limited fingering comfort level in C.

Are there other songs in C that would be accessible for someone used to playing in G on the upper strings? My fiddle is tuned down.

No one seems to come to your rescue ... go for those two old folkways LP from Dewey Balfa and Tracy Schwarz, reissued now on CD. I posted links before twice ... Lots of tunes, and I think Port Arthur Blues is one of 'em, but probably played in D. You can play any D tune on a lower tuned fiddle in C. - Nout

I think I'm going to focus on Misery Two Step, Danse de Limonade, and Chanson de Mardi Gras for now. Limonade seems REALLY doable, and the others will stretch me.

Hitting that 4th finger position on the upper string can go amiss quite easily, though I can make it work on the two middle strings much better. Not sure if the lower pitch is more forgiving. That high pitch is not forgiving at all.

I don't have those recordings, I don't think. I have other Dennis McGee stuff.

If a fiddle is setup right and f.i. the stringlenght behind the bridge is 1/6th of that on the fingerboard it might be easier on a good fiddle since resonating overtones match better ... - Nout

Pretty sure it's set up right. I don't do them myself.
