Re: lyrics help- the life i thought i wanted

A.J.

Get a copy of "Ye Yaille, Chere!" by Mr. Raymond Francis.
Often referred to as the 'Big, Yellow Book', it contains the lyrics to
"La Vie J'croyais J'voulais" and about 246 more songs.
Get it at Amazon for less than $30.00.
They also have Ann Sayoy's book, "Cajun Music, A Reflection of a People"
With the two of them you will have instant access.

Some differences with the Yellow Book in the first part. Maybe not the same version of Touchet Brothers ?

Oui, vous avez raison, Marc. Il existe des differences.
M. François n'est souvent pas en ligne avec la version chantée.

Merci JB,

Will pick one up before too long- then I'll stop pestering y'all!
I do have a copied version of the carousel learn accordion book but alot of the lyrics seem to be different from what I hear musicians perform. I'm non french speaking and at the moment tend to go for less wordy ones like Grand Texas. I can see how singing really improves playing and it brings the tunes over in their proper context, the best music in the world in my opinion. Hope i can somehow do it justice in my corner of Yorkshire.

A.J., if you look for other lyrics, for other versions, don’t hesitate, ask. All isn’t in books or liner notes. The versions of a same songs are often very different !!

Besides Raymond Francois and Ann Savoys books which are fantastic! Here are some good online references for lyrics. I always try these resources first before asking the board. 1st, you can search this forum to see if the lyrics have already been posted; 2nd, this site is wonderful http://cajunlyrics.com/ ; and 3rd is this site here http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/cajunzydeco-lyrics/files/

Re: lyrics help- the life i thought i wanted

Thanks, I do check these ones.
T'other nite I figured out how to play 'Deacon jones' then went and found the lyrics on a site called "mudcat cafe", got a bit of a shock I'll tell thee!
Have changed it a bit.
Great stuff with the band Jon.
