Early Cajun Music: "L'Abandoner" - Bartmon Montet & Joswell Dupuis
One of the earliest, fairly obscure, groups to record in New Orleans in the early years was Bartmon Montet & Joswell Dupuis. In November 1929, this unknown duo recorded for Victor records, one of the first labels specifically looking for Cajun music.
With all the reissues on CD's and Neal's site we could think there was nothing else to discover in the old days repertoire. And yet it's just the opposite!
This one sounds like the first recorded version of the 99-Year Waltz, doesn't it?
