Lost Bayou Ramblers at National Folk Festival

I just found out that the Lost Bayou Ramblers from Lafayette played at the National Folk Festival in Richmond Virginia last weekend. Missed it, but somebody already posted a video on Youtube (link above)
Louis Michot on fiddle, Andre Michot on accordion, Oscar Courville on drums. Can't name the guitarist or the bass player.

It's a medley of Bosco Stomp, Shamrock (with shades of T'as fini de me voir), and Lafayette.

Un beaucoup bon job partout! Bien merci! Une des plus bonne tite orchestre Cadien "right now."

Re: Lost Bayou Ramblers at National Folk Festival

Thanks Neal, hadnt ever heard their music before, boy if they cant get a crowd going some pulses need to be checked.

Shamrock? Is that what that middle song is? Never heard it I dont think, but boy they nail it.

Re: Re: Lost Bayou Ramblers at National Folk Festival

Sham, rock is a Nathan Abshire classic no?

Shamrock

That's the air that makes up part of the song Les Haricots sont Pas Sale on that French cd of the same name, the one with Nathan, the Balfas, Bee Fontenot, Shirley Bergeron and the Deshotels, etc.

It should also be on the Swallow Best of Nathan Abshire cd.

Re: Lost Bayou Ramblers at National Folk Festival

Looked on the web site (above), drummer is Alan Lafleur (great name), and Cavan Carruth on guitar. That song in the middle, whatever it is, is addictive.

Re: Re: Lost Bayou Ramblers at National Folk Festival

Too bad the camera angle isn't better for you accordion players. You mostly see Andre's bass side.

I've heard them do Lafayette before and remarked to Louis that he sounded like Lionel Leleux on the recording with Joseph Falcon on Arhoolie, Cajun Pioneer. He seemed a bit startled by my comment and said that in fact he patterned his solo on that song after Leleux's. Sounds to me if you listen a bit that they also pattern their "rough" rhythm section on that Falcon cd. That's about as rough a rhythm a section as you ever hear, and it's very infectious.

They appear to be joking in the video when they say they don't know the name of the middle song. At least the other bandmates laughed. Louis just probably didn't want to say Les Haricots sont pas sale for some reason. My guess.
