cajun in changsha china?

Dear bravenets,
In a few weeks I will fly to China, Changsha, Hunan province and am wondering if anyone knows someone (is this correct english?)who plays cajun in this town ( 7 million inhabitants, though). Still don't know if I take my accordion with me, I'm only there for 4 weeks and am overloaded already

5 string banjo players are also my interest.

Re: cajun in changsha china?

You'd think, with the amount of 10-button boxes made in Chiney, that someone over there would know how to play one!

Eh, don't count on it. I haven't seen a release from Kang Yeung and His Yellow River Boys... at least not yet...

Re: Re: cajun in changsha china?

Well, Rick,
its' been said that they kinda discovered the squeezebox, when they invented the "free reed" or Sheng (some call it Feng?).
They also have been playing on a kind of banjo for ages, I read. I will visit their music museum and try to find out.
Maybe not "Allons a Changsha City", but "old time Hunan mountain clawhammer" instead?

I'm not surprised -- the Chinese are extremely inventive; and with a civilization that has been around as long as they have, I'll bet you could trace back the origin of the squeezebox to one dynasty or another. Send us photos if you find some free-reed roots! That would be cool C'est fun, Mr. Gus!

Beaucoup "How", and "Shey-shey",

Re: Re: Re: Re: cajun in changsha china?

feng sh , the art of furnishing your office or designing your garden seems to be very popular. Many Chinese seem to be very superstitious.
I hope to have the possibility to enjoy some ancient or modern music. One of my Chinese collegues told me that he thought that "folk music"(their root music) was for the old people. So time for their Balfa's to play the old tunes.

Gus.

By the way Glenn, your Acadian is doing well!!
