After reading a few recent threads about problems with stops, picking up the accordion by the stops, etc., it got me thinking. I know that on most Cajun-style accordions, the stops are up to play and down to mute. On my Regal it's the opposite - the stops are down to play and up to mute. So for me the stops never move at all, they're just down to play all the time.

Which is a better design? What are the advantages/disadvantages of each? Are there any current builders who build accordions where the stops are down to play, or who would do so on request?

I would think that any builder would make them for you that way if you request it. From what I have gathered it is just a tradition thing. I will be building my own soon and I will build mine with the stops down to play.

Bryan are there any plans this year for another boucherie in La Gris like you had last December?

Of course, one way or another! It was fun and the food and fellowship was good. Hopefully I can keep up with dad a little better on the music end next year.

Man I'd like to come to that, we got a bunch of friends in La. Where exactly is it. It said Hwy 10 and 13 on the web-site. Is that La 10 or I-10 ? I'd like to get an exact date for that in the future when you folks do it. If we aren't booked somewhere, I'd like to ride down just to experience something like that. Sounds like BBQ up here. Bruce

Bruce, it's the intersection of La. Hwy. 10 and La. Hwy 13. To get there, take I-10 to Crowley, LA, turn right (north) on La. Hwy. 13. L'Anse Grise is about 40 miles north of Crowley. We'll do our best to let you know when it happens.

I guess there are as many answers to this as the mitre corner question. The two I am building right now are split. One up for on and one down for on. The one with the stops down I am building for myself. The one with the stops up to play I will sell. I know its just a mental picture thing but figured it would sell easier in tradional setup.

My box would have suffered much less damage with stops down to play. Those things are in a precarious position sticking out like that all the time.
