I've been feeling stuck. Just kind of stalled on getting any progress with the cajun accordion. I don't feel like my licks are improving, or my timing, or my phrasing. I just feel stuck. Would anybody be willing to skype for a little while and jam? Maybe thats what I need to get out of this funk. Anybody up for a skype jam?
Try making a guitar and/or drum machine backing to various songs ...if you have the means to do that.
Or...look up Big Nick's new CD instructional DVD's..he has backing music which you could use.
Soloing with accordion can be a bit ho-hum if you don't have something driving you along. Darryl.
The best way out is i think play live with other people. Find a guitar player f.i. and that will need you to stick to timing and rhythm keeping. - Nout
I thought you already played with a band?
If you get stuck, you might just as well quit Cajun music for a while and try something else.
I did the same some time ago, and it made me quite happy: I didn't play Cajun music ever since!!
just kiddin'...
It only made my wife happy.
But I really think it's healthy to step out for a while. Iznogood if you get sick of your own playing.
The cajun appetite will come back soon enough
(I hope)
Yeah, i think you're hitting the nail on the head there, I'm a little sick of my own playing. The thing is, I don't think I can stop with cajun music. I'm not tired of listening to other people, I'm just not satisfied with my own playing. I feel like I'm hitting some sort of ceiling and I need something to push me through to the next level.
Try something different in style like an Irish or Old time Country tune to develop your melodic feel? F.i. Arkinsaw Traveller is great on the onerow machine .- Nout
This happens to me alot. I always find the reason I am stuck in a rut is because I play in a rut. You get comfortable playing the same old tunes the same old way. Try to do something hard. Challenge yourself.
Another thing I do is go back to the basics practicing rhythm, timing, posture, phrasing, etc.
Well, Ehren, I'm afraid that this thread got stuck, too.
I think it's only normal that you have such a period every now and then. Just a matter of time, I guess. Best of luck.
