3rd Annual "The Big Squeeze" Orange County California

3rd Annual "The Big Squeeze"
Orange County Accordion Festival
Costa Mesa, California, Orange County Fairgrounds
October 09,2011 (Sunday) 10:00am-4:00pm
4 stages of accordion music from different genres.

Any Louisiana box builders attending/selling their 10 button boxes at this event?

Re: 3rd Annual "The Big Squeeze" Orange County California

No bands from Louisiana. It may be that they don't have the budget for that.

Re: 3rd Annual "The Big Squeeze" Orange County California

I highly recommend that anyone who plays accordion, both piano and button, attend this event. I attended the last two and enjoyed it very much. As for Cajun music, most likely, the Fontenot Pappion Old Time Creole Band will play. They are originally from Louisiana and played the last two years. They are very good. There was a gentleman selling a couple of Junior Martin boxes. You might see some for sale there this year. Again, I highly recommend this event to all accordionists living in SoCal.

I am pretty sure that Pappion/Fontenot will not be in the lineup this year. But they will have Andrey Thierry for sure.

Whatever happened to that book writer from Calif that had a dream? Wonder if she will be there

huh?

Huh? Watcha talkin' about?

Re: huh?

She was from Calif used to post on here. Her husband took her to New Orleans for some reason. She feel in love with the Cajun sound and accordion. She had a band in Calif. I just was wondering if she is still in love with the Cajun Accordion and will be there for this event.

Re: huh?

That was Blair Kilpatrick, author of "Accordion Dreams." She lives in the Bay area.

Re: huh?

Oh you mean Blair - got it.

No, she won't be there. For one thing, this is an accordion event, not specifically just Cajun and Zydeco. Also, they seem to pull in local bands, and Blair lives hundreds of miles away.

Re: huh?

Is she an accordion player or an author? What is her book about?
Chuck from Kentucky

Re: huh?

She is both accordion player and author. Her book is about her journey to playing accordion and her mentor, Danny Poullard.

Her website is link 1.

Re: huh?

Hello!

I somehow came across a link to this post through my website. Thanks for the mention.

I haven't checked out Bravenet in some time, I guess.

So here's an update:

Yes, I'm still in love with the Cajun accordion! Steve and I still have regular jams at our house in Berkeley--last one on Saturday. Andrew Carriere (Bebe's son) comes over regularly. He reminds me of my love for that old time Creole sound.

I'm still playing with my band Sauce Piquante. Our most recent gig was at Ashkenaz in Berkeley 2 nights ago.

I'm also working on a new book. And then there's the old day job. So, all in all, I stay busy. Probably why I haven't been on Bravenet much lately :-)

My very best to all.
