look like a monkey?

Hello Dear Friends

Can someone give me the Cajun lyrics to Look Like a Monkey When You Get Old?

Thanks, dear friends!!!

Roger

Re: look like a monkey?

Was there a Cajun version of this song?

The only recording I know of the song was by Boozoo, and it is in English. Somebody told me that it is a very old song with many variations, but I don't know any of them myself.

Re: look like a monkey?

Hello Roger,
It's called "Le Macaque". I know this version by one of our bands:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwsiAn18YRk

They say in the liner notes that they found it on one of Hubert Maître's CD's, "La vieille chaudière noire", Acadiana ACD 0132-2, French lyrics by Pat Thibodeaux. They are in the notes:

Moi j'peux dire par tes lèvres
T'as mangé trop de fèves !

Moi j'peux dire à tes joues

Re: look like a monkey?

You made me curious about it. What I have found is that it is an old Western Swing song recorded for the first time in 1935 by Milton Brown. Is it an even older traditional song? (I couldn't find). As I have noticed in this case already (Le Vieux Soulard... for instance), the Cajuns have softened the lyrics and made a "chanson farce" out of it.
The oldest recorded version is here:

Re: look like a monkey?

Finally found the original song, written and recorded by jazz musician Clarence Williams in 1930.

Re: look like a monkey?

Hi Roger my friend,
Here are french lyrics. (I don't understand all the names)

Moi, j’veux dire (???), oh t’as mangé tous les fèves,
