Re: Jr Martin Accordion

My experience especially with older martins is that in a lot of cases you'll need to refurbish the flappers leather surface. The glue used soaks through the leather and felt hardening the layer causing a more clicky noise than usual. Sometimes it even causes a water removable sticky surface on to the front plate. Don't use alcohol etc for cleaning, it can damage the french polish if used like on a maple one. If it's heavily played you might need a tuning job done or even replacement of some broken reeds. But i saw really mint ones, rarely played, though still with the flapper leather problem. Check the reeds and look at the valves condition before you pay more than 1500. Accordions are like cars, they need servicing and an old lady driving to keep 'em OK over time. - Nout
