Re: Chicken or egg?( Possibly one for Neal)

Gotta agree with Ganey!

Had never heard the Hank song before (website #1). Done in 1946 from what I can tell. I love Hank, so thanks for calling it to attention!

Good song, but Belizaire sounds more like Roy Acuff's Precious Jewel to me (website #2). Done in 1941 from what I can tell.

Nathan first recorded Belisaire for Lyric records (a Khoury 78) ~1951, later released as a 45 for Khoury records (website #3). Sounds like Will Kegley on vocal.

The more commonly heard version by Nathan was called Phil's Waltz, a Swallow 45 in the 1960s, flip side Offshore Blues.

Hey BJ , are you coming to Malton?
Jambalaya was written and performed by Moon Mullican and Hank Williams. That's what I read somewhere on the internet. Moon also influenced many country and rockabilly artists (Link#2)

Re: Chicken or egg?( Possibly one for Neal)

Neal, any chance you know (and can post) the lyrics to the Phil's Waltz version?

Re: Chicken or egg?( Possibly one for Neal)

Phil's Waltz

Sounds to me like this:

Thanks so much Neal, for once again serving as that well of infinite knowledge!!

Very interesting. I guess a lot of cajun music is truly an American- French entity.
