Do you think a "Buy & Sell" Sub-Forum would be helpful?

Hello Braves,

Our Bravenet Managing software allows us to create and
use sub-forums.

When you open the Bravenet Forum, a list of categories
would be displayed such as:

- General Discussion
- Buy And Sell

Or for that matter, whatever other categories that we
feel would be useful. (Maybe an area for 'Song of
the Month' video clips?)

Any feedback on this idea? Good idea? Bad Idea?

Merci beaucoup,

--Big Nick

Great Idea!

That is a great idea Big Nick!

Re: Do you think a "Buy & Sell" Sub-Forum would be helpful?

On the face of it I was going to say...yeah, good idea... but...Just wondering about the following :

Creating another level of info. which probably is adequately covered at present, at least in IMHO.

Those ' grey ' areas eg. theoretically...I have a C box that has this or that problem....I'd like to know what's involved to fix it or modify it, but I'd be prepared to sell as is.
That's two subjects for the same accordion. Then you risk having the subject matters discussed on two forums with the inevitable incorrect or inappropriate posting.

Also, I guess, that means there are more levels of security control for you BN.

Guess, BN, I'm just trying to be a devil's advocate on this before you multi-layer your forum convenor role for probably small gain and possibly more problem solving.
. Man..you got enough to do as it is sometimes..ya know what I mean ?

Re: Do you think a "Buy & Sell" Sub-Forum would be helpful?

- Maybe a "Reviews" sub-forum: for Cajun/Zydeco CD's, (latest releases and older albums), movies, documentaries, books about Louisiana music, culture and history...

Re: Do you think a "Buy & Sell" Sub-Forum would be helpful?

The only thing I'd like to see separated is Jamey's song of the whatever it is. It would make it easier to look up. We don't really have enough posts to separate much out, to me.

Re: Do you think a "Buy & Sell" Sub-Forum would be helpful?

Buy & Sell is a great idea, but eBay only gets 2 or 3 good boxes a month. I would hate to see it develop and then become a junk store like eBay.

That said, I'm always looking for a deal, and there aren't many CA shopping venues. Perhaps a quality market could develop here.

Also consider: Buy/Sell/Swap

If you want to give it a test run, I've got a listing.

Re: Do you think a "Buy & Sell" Sub-Forum would be helpful?

Well Ariettes should be banned from the site!

Re: Do you think a "Buy & Sell" Sub-Forum would be helpful?

Good idea, but "buy and sell" at melodeon.net is already a good place to shop. Over time i bought quite a few for myself and also for others through contacts on this site, craigslist and ebay. Usually the ones coming from or through fellow bravenetters are in a fair to very good condition, and described correctly in advance at a fair price. With Ebay and craigslist i got some real doghouses advertised as "perfect" and "mint"; smokey-mokes, rusty and or broken reeds (i won't mention his name here, but a Jr Martin coming from a well known English zydeco player had even sound-holes covered with cellotape he did not mention in advance), dugout keyboards (cleverly masked on the usually then vague pictures), stuck, bent or even internally broken stops, leaky slides or bellows, and in most cases i fixed the issues and sold some to players who are still happy with them. Of course the work involved in man-hours and materials usually don't match the market value regarding the paid price, but gave me the chance to collect a few good ones over time, and my fave still a really overhauled Martin C. The thing to be aware of buying "second hand" is that most players play far too rough causing de-tuning, broken reeds etc. You wouldn't want to buy a car from a rough merciless driving owner. - Nout

Re: Do you think a "Buy & Sell" Sub-Forum would be helpful?

It's true that there is not much going on in the market. When there's a box for sale, it can be spotted right away on our regular board.
Wouldn't it be more useful to reserve a special corner where Braves can fight out personal feuds without bothering the others?

"Wouldn't it be more useful to reserve a special corner where Braves can fight out personal feuds without bothering the others?"

Now that, Peer, is an awesome idea.

Re: Do you think a "Buy & Sell" Sub-Forum would be helpful?

A Buy, Sell, & Trade sub-forum could be useful and may be worth a try. But a special forum where cyper-bullying and gross comments could be carried out without bothering others is almost imperative. Something should be done.

Re: Do you think a "Buy & Sell" Sub-Forum would be helpful?

I wish Big Nick would banish Randy4u to the Little Boys section of the forum until he learns to act like a grown up.

Re: Do you think a "Buy & Sell" Sub-Forum would be helpful?

Peer I agree with you a witches and ******* section where all these stuck ups can vent their frustrations

Re: Do you think a "Buy & Sell" Sub-Forum would be helpful?

Not really but the idea of sub-forums could be a good idea. Although headlined as a cajun accordion discussion forum some may find, as I do, this forum discussion on cajun music, songs and tunes somewhat disappointing. Might be worth a thought as to the original forum premise.

However, looking through the forum participation I don't believe there are the numbers to warrant sub-forums. However, if there were I would like to see these topics subbed: lyrics; are you going to etc.; reeds/bellows/building and other technicals. Only because I'm not particularly interested. How about a sub-forum for music?

Re: Do you think a "Buy & Sell" Sub-Forum would be helpful?

Big,

Along with Cajun music, I have several other "old school" type hobbies. Like shaving with straight razors. I frequent a razor forum thats pretty streamlined. Like Cajun accordion, straight razors have several sub topics, e.g. restorations, sharpening, beginners, or types of razors, etc. They have a person that is moderator for each sub-forum, that way responsibility to keep forums on topic, move discussions to appropriate forums, etc is not laid heavily on the shoulders of one person. It has worked for them for several years, and I would dare say, allowed more people to become interested based on the various topics associated. If you do go through with this, which I support 100%, I only ask you put a small room in the corner for fiddlers.

good luck on your deliberations and have a great day!

Re: Do you think a "Buy & Sell" Sub-Forum would be helpful?

I personally don't mind seen for sale stuff on the main page, if it's cajun related. And I'm less likely to go looking for other threads. I know some people get tweaked about it, but....

it can be called THE MITERED CORNER :)

i don;t think there is really enough traffic in special topics like selling, lyrics, reviews etc

i don;t really want to have to click around 3-4 times when once is just fine now

though i do like the idea of putting everything i am not interested in, in some other place, and then i would NEVER click there :)

plus little boys, ranters, ravers, political discussions, racial slurs, pornographic avatars, can all go there too

it can be called THE MITERED CORNER
:)

Re: it can be called THE MITERED CORNER :)

That miter might not be the solution.

"Buy & Sell" Sub-Forum YES

I think it would be a great idea!

I would post listing in the buy/sell area that I am reluctant to post in the "general discussion" area.

I don't think it is appropriate to post buy/sell adds in the general discussion space.

I also would NOT worry about the the buy/sell area being filled with trash, because it is only Bravers that are posting. If I put up a "bad" ad, I am going to get a bad reputation very quickly and no one will want to buy any of my accordions.

But, I also think that we should limit the items for sale to related items, no OT postings. e.g. Margi Gras beads, CDs, t-shirts, etc.

Or if you want, the buy/sell area could be sub-catigorized to allow for such. That way each band could list their stuff in the APPROPRIATE sub catigory.

Also, there should be rules about frequency of reposting. (Even with the rules Craigslist gets really annoying with some guy reposting the same trashy guitar every day.)

ANyway, that's my 2 cents. (wanna buy it?)

Re: "Buy & Sell" Sub-Forum YES

A buy and sell forum is standard on other box discussion groups as well as the majority of instrument discussion groups.

I really don't want to (and don't) scroll through 20 pages of discussions searching for a box for sale.

Accordeons would sell faster, make it easier for buyers and sellers.

If you want to see rules go to the UMGF buy and sell
( Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum) they are the ultra weenies for rules if you want to go that far.

I see self policing. Folks know who the flakes are.
Post the specs, post the facts, post the price and shipping/return policy.

Re: Do you think a "Buy & Sell" Sub-Forum would be helpful?

The more I think about it, the more I think it would be a good idea.
