Re: Can anyone lend a hand on a 3-row accordion tune? Paper in my Shoe?
I played along with him. It appears as though he is playing an FBbEb accordion, and he is on the outside row. That signature lick is equivalent to a 7, 10 pull on a 10 button, but he is crossing over to the middle row to grab the same note an octave higher.
BooZoo's fingering is sloppy and very hard to duplicate. My ear wants me to articulate the notes clearly.
Re: Can anyone lend a hand on a 3-row accordion tune? Paper in my Shoe?
Sorry, I wasn't clear. I set the ASD at -4 semitones, but then I play it in G (second row), although the
first lick is played on the C row. I'll send a
video later.
the flat 3rd -> major 3rd slide is the *single* most used trick in all of 3 row playing
you can do it on the outside row and the middle row
you find the flat 3rd in the row 'above' - more inside
on a F Bb Eb, you would be in C on the F row
the flat 3rd of C would be Eflat, of course it is in the Bb row
pull
find the E on the C row
the Eb will be one row above and about 1.5 buttons farther from the floor
Re: Can anyone lend a hand on a 3-row accordion tune? Paper in my Shoe?
Yes, it is in the key of C, played mainly on the outside row of an F-Bb-Eb triple row. As Larry says, it uses the minor third/major third blend as a very important part of the song. That's what makes it bluesy.
On your G-C-F, I suppose you would play it in D on the outside row.
I think it is the very first recorded zydeco hit. Boozoo beat Clifton to those bragging rights by a year or so.
