Re: Fiddle question - Valse a Balfa

Well... you could try like charlie said, but I'm not sure what he means. sometimes Mitch plays that E note on the A string with his first or second finger instead of the fourth to get a real long slide in. alot of the old players used to do that, especially Dennis. From what I'm hearing sounds like Will is sliding from A to E on the E string starting from A sliding through G# and a little under G# but not quite G and letting it go to an open E. Not that uncomfortable, try moving just your finger instead of the whole hand, and a little longer bow stroke. The Balfas liked those longer bow strokes. Dewey especially, but thats Will playing lead not Dewey.

In the end its gonna be how you want to play it. Do it differently thats what made the old guys so distinctive. No one fiddler played it the same way. Thats what will make it Dwights version and not Will Bolfa.
