Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

OK .. this topic is probably stale by now .. but
better late than never?

Re: Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

Don't worry Nick, I still have a straggler coming in (can't find my camera/computer cord!) Great job! Having that background "band" is sooooo cool!

Re: Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

Hey big how/what are you using for them drum tracks? that was pretty sweet, how they came in full on the turn

Re: Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

Great playing!
And, as always , a well finished "production".

Re: Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

Christian,

I use Cakewalk's "Sonar" to record.

You can "see" the computer display over my left
shoulder as I play.

I perform everything except the percussion tracks which are
"loops". One can put *alot* of time playing with
loops and such. This was a minimal arrangement

I brought the drums into the mix at the B-part
simply for the sake of interest .. not particularly
authentic.

It's just more fun for me to play with a band, even
if it's virtual

Re: Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

Heh.. I'm just about ready to record the Poullard Special. Definitely better late than never.

Re: Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

You go, JohnA! Whenever you get to it is the right time.

Re: Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

Great Big, awesome playing.
It sounds a lot as One Step de Duson?
Is that right ?

Re: Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

I wasn't sure if it's "One Step de Duson" or
"Creole Stomp".

I copped my version from a video clip that Mark
Marcin had posted of the Savoy family band, performing
in a music store.

As a matter of fact, now that I go back and look at
the "original" clip, it's been renamed "One Step de Duson" so I've actually posted the wrong song!

Creole Three Step

Ah, the vagaries of cajun music. By comparison with other renditions whatever you are playing is more the Stomp than the Step. (Check Louis Cromier on Youtube). But then again, who's to say?

Re: Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

Creole Stomp and the Duson are quite similar. In fact, if you google Marc Savoy doing a bookstore concert in Florida (I think), the song is listed as the Duson and I think it's the Creole Stomp.

Oops, I hadn't checked Big's post. He agreed, before I posted. That Biggie is a real smart fella.

Re: Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

Thanks Jamie. I keep looking and looking at the recording of La Valse Evangeline you did for me. I like your take on it. Hopefully soon I'll be ready to put something up.

Man.. none of this comes easy for me, but when it hits - oh mais, it is good.

Re: Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

The secret is to stick with it - which I think you've already figured out; the "aha" moments will get more frequent. It just takes time and persistence.

And you're gonna get it. I can tell. You got the fire.

Re: Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

Did i miss your version, Jamey?

Re: Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

Can't find my stupid camera/computer cable, and have been too busy to do the excavation necessary to find it.

Just listen to Horace Trahan's version - mine sounds just like it.

Re: Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

Did he learn it from you?!

Re: Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

Ah, Charlie, thanks for the laugh - I needed that!

Re: Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

me too!

Re: Finally got around to posting Creole Stomp

Thanks, Big. You've rekindled my enthusiasm for that tune. The version I like is Joe Falcon around 1963 with his missus on drums.
Yours is about as close as I've heard.
