Re: Accordion choice

If you are going to buy a quality new accordion you are going to have to wait about 6 weeks or more. Acadian, Falcon and Martin are the big names (we've deemed them the Big 3 here on the board), but there are some other quality builders out there. I hear Falcons are significantly more expensive than the other 2 and that Martin's prices are getting pretty high up there too. For me, there are 3 builders I would buy from. 1st, A Marc Savoy Acadian because he is the master of both playing and building and the sound is as good as it gets. Marc has been at it over 50 years and his product just keeps getting better. Love him or hate him, the guy is a national treasure and so are his accordions. Expect to pay about $2,500 give or take a few hundred depending on what you want. Out of the Big 3 I find Acadians and Falcons to sound the best. But I have a personal preference for the sound of an Acadian, it's just so sweet! When I look to see what the great accordion players are playing Acadian and Falcon are the two I see most often. The issue with Marc though is that he does things his own way and that sometimes that rubs people the wrong way.

The other 2 are right here on the message board. Bryan LeFleur's L'Anse Gris and Rusty Sanner's Heritage. I've played both these brands - I love them and I'm not just blowing smoke up anyone's ass because they are on this message board. Their accordions are excellent. The advantage of going with these guys is you get a high quality accordion that plays and sounds great but you don't have to pay the extra money you would otherwise for the other Big 3 makers. Plus with these two and especially with Bryan you can have so much customized to your liking.

I know Jude Moreau is a builder who post here too but I've never played any of his accordions before. I hear good things about them though.
