Charles, I'm getting befuddled just trying to parse all these suggestions about box brands and tuning. Here's a simpler solution:

Marc Savoy started on a Hohner HA-114. He sells them new for about $750. You can leave all 4 stops up for wet tuning, or shut the 3rd for dry (mine is tuned that way, so I assume all are). The best of both worlds in a single instrument.

Start with this one, develop some chops, and THEN spring for the big bucks box. You can sell the HA-114 for about half of your cost, resulting in a reasonable startup cost.

Jump in start playing NOW. You'll know when it's time to upgrade.
