In a moment of madness, I joined the Roland FR-18 club!

Well .. I bought one!

Time for some 3-row Zydeco with the Cajun Strangers.

I have two weeks to decide if I need to return the
unit to the music store ..

You can set it up as a club too!!!!

Welcome.

They don't sound good through an amp. Use a PA. I use two effects pedals with mine, to warm it up:

EP Booster, and
RC Bass Booster.

And this page might be interesting if you dig playing Irish and English stuff, and want to set up your FR to have the proper basses available: http://squeezehead.com/keyboard-layouts/basses/LAYOUTS.html

Hi Bigtronic Nick , congrats with your new instrument.
I think that, whatever people think about it, the FR18 is a miracle of technic. I will never buy one (????) , because I prefer a normal one row. I hope you will have a lot of pleasure with the Roland.
All those possibilities with keys , effects, sounds,.... should be great fun. Maybe it's also possible to program it like a one row in every key you want?

Re: In a moment of madness, I joined the Roland FR-18 club!

Braves,

My plan is to use the FR-18 for "Zydeco" stuff ..
Boozoo, Delafose, Chenier, etc.

I anticipate playing the FR-18 through the PA when
electric bass & drums are honking along.

I don't anticipate replacing any of my 1-rows with
the new unit .. I'm quite satisfied with the 10-buttons
just the way they are :-)

And, if I wind up doing any studio recording, I'll
likely use my Baldoni 3-row.

One of my main motives is to avoid the necessity of
purchasing additional 3-rows for various key changes.

With that said, does anyone have a favorite "Zydeco"
setting for the FR-18?

Merci!

Re: lucky you have a music store to try one out from

I bet could find a digital banjo.

Re: In a moment of madness, I joined the Roland FR-18 club!

I think Ganey likes set 3.2 Red, and 3.3 green. One of my band mates told me 3.3 Red sounds better.

Digital Banjo?!

Hey Diwght,

"Digital Banjo!" .. C'mon man, no profanity on this
forum please

Just kidding. Thanks for the setup info. I will
try it out!

Re: Digital Banjo?!

What, no digital stimulation allowed in this joint?

It sounds like you're taking the Cajun Strangers in a new direction. That's exciting. I look forward to hearing the results. JJ
