If the author thinks the Lost Bayou Ramblers play some kind of new Cajun rock music, he probably never heard Joe Falcon recorded live at the Triangle Club in 1963, or any of Austin Pitre's hits. Joe Falcon, that's the sound the Lost Bayou Ramblers patterned themselves after. And when Louis plays Allons à Lafayette, he's paying tribute to Lionel Leleux's reading of that tune. I know 'cause he told me so.
I haven't heard Mammoth Waltz, which sounds like a departure, but I liked what Louie said about Joe Falcon and Austin Pitre and rock and roll in this story:
I had the same experience, Big Nick. And while the new music was great, because the Lost Bayou Ramblers are great, I much prefer their more traditional sound. But hey, artists have to be free to explore . . .
