Re: New Hohner cajun IV

"I haven't yet seen this alleged new abomonation from Hohner, but on the subject of stops being in or out, it seems far more sensible to be to have to pull a stop out for tuning, than to push it in, (since everybody always warns me that the stops should be pulled out and left out, which seems more than a bit 'counter intuitive' to me)

This is truly odd to my way of thinking, since the accordion is more compact for both use and storage, and the stop rods are in less danger of getting bent if the position was reversed. How often, and for how long is an accordion stop actually pushed in for infrequent tunings, compared to the many hours (if not years) the poor dang thing is sticking out, accumulating dirt, and corrosion and generally getting in the way?"

If you haven't seen this abom"i"nation from Hohner; how do you know it's an abomination.?

Stops down to open is common.
If you want to store it in a case, push the stops down... simple.

I believe it is a bit of an abomination as it is a bit less than attractive.. they should have called me first : ) I would have saved them from a fashion disaster.

Many Cajuns played Hohners for years , as well as playing other Czech, German, Saxon, Austrian and Bohemian made boxes.

I believe you all know, not my opinion but the facts of what makes a "Cajun" accordeon "Cajun".

Re: New Hohner cajun IV

Smacks of an HA-114 in a clunkier box. Maybe it will displace the embarrassing Ariette. I'm with Peer on this one - Simply assigning the name Cajun doesn't impart Cajun roots.

This box will probably fall on the price point of Gabanelli King and Weltmeister 10-button, and may give them a run for their money.

Given the resources and market savvy of Hohner, why couldn't they have cloned the Monarch? Maybe they're not as smart as Sidney Brown.

Re: New Hohner cajun IV

You know, that's an excellent point. Why not approach Hohner and have them make a better, more Cadien accordion? Make it like the old Monarch's. I would contend that more people would learn to play better, sooner, and thus stick with it.

Re: New Hohner cajun IV

Well, now wouldn't that greatly diminish the amount of fun on this forum f.i. by taking a pisjh (that's Irish-speak BTW) on some reedy-related stuff? An example; Airiette was a well chosen name for such an Airy thing? - nout

Re: New Hohner cajun IV

Bear in mind that all Hohners are made in China. As far as I'm concerned, anything made in China is cheap, shoddy, poorly made, overpriced junk.

What happened?!

I imagine:
Somebody at Hohner's said: "Hey guys! I have a great idea for a new accordion!! Let's combine Chinese quality with Nazi looks, and call it Cajun IV" !!

Chinese Hohner quality

I gotta say, with all sincerity, my best HA114 is my one in D, that's Chinese. Loudest, and best tone, for sure. Only problem was the breaking bass side spoons' springs. I used some older ones off some junkie Hohners I have sitting around

"Bear in mind that all Hohners are made in China. As far as I'm concerned, anything made in China is cheap, shoddy, poorly made, overpriced junk."

First part of the statement is false. Hohners are made in Germany, Italy and China. Some parts come from the Czech republic.

Second part is also untrue, have you tried any of the Eastman guitars, both archtop and flat top. Thought not. or Guild GAD guitars, thought not.

The Nazi comment was in poor taste.

Admittedly the accordion is anything but attractive, they could at least have made it black.

Would I be out of line suggesting that we play one before we make comments.

Re: Chinese Hohner quality

I admit that the nazi remark was bad taste. Not as bad as the Cajun IV design, but still... Sometimes you think you're funny , but you are not. This happened to me yesterday. Hopefully in the future I will be as funny as ever!
I have two Chinese resonator guitars, both quite good. And from now on I will leave the comments on Chinese accordions to the real connoisseurs. Happy?

Talking about bad taste: moralizing others without even mentioning your own name doesn't deserve a beauty prize either.

Re: Chinese Hohner quality

Well said Peer.
:-)

To Mister *******: before taking the high grounds on other people's comments, why don't you start by posting a name.

Re: Chinese Hohner quality

I just looked at the clip.... Ouf....Calling it with the word "Cajun" in it is an insult to Cajuns, Cajun culture and Cajun music. That thing sounds and looks ugly. It proves that the marketing people at Hohner are obviously disconnected from the potential market of people who have an interest in Cajun music. This product won't fly, unless, there's another market for it that I'm unaware of.

Re: Chinese Hohner quality

I bet if Steve Riley played it behind a screen it would sound much better to everyone. JMHO

Re: New Hohner cajun IV

Well, Steve, too late mate: some acclaimed famous person had already the Gutz to play it in front of the screen ... giving us the opportunity to see what this fuzz is all about:

What a beautie ! love the one polkadot on the keyboard, must be the switch for preset "cajun music" ... must say the sound of the thang seems not too bad on this video, and it looks a bit here if this particular is in need of a puncture fix, but maybe it's only a small hole .... Nout

Re: Joel

Joel is an excellent accordionist.
But it looks like he is working a bit hard to play this instument.
Is anyone else seeing that in the video?

DP

Re: Joel

Joel always looks like he is working hard when he plays, it is his style.

BTW he is from Union Gap Washington south of Yakima.

Re: Chinese Hohner quality

Beats taking the low ground.

Re: Chinese Hohner quality

My Name is Jeff Hildreth,

but as others use the same nom de plume over and over and over, I add a bit of variety.

Re: New Hohner cajun IV

BUTT always a bowl of rice at the end of the session

Re: New Hohner cajun IV
