Re: New Cajun Lyrics Book by David Greely

A competitor?
Very interesting, I'm going to order this book.

Re: New Cajun Lyrics Book by David Greely

Excellent work by Greely.
My degree is in linguistics and this is a great approach to teaching people the "as spoken, as sung" Cajun dialect. In the past, I've seen lyrics that were all chopped up words with lots of apostrophe's denoting missing letters. I had NO IDEA how to pronounce that.
Greely's approach shows the missing pieces of the puzzle which are so important in pronouncing and understanding the translation so that you can remember the thoughts. A song is a story. You have to know the story before you can repeat it, let alone sing it with the intended feelings.
This is first class CODOFIL-type preservation work. Good on David Greely!

Re: New Cajun Lyrics Book by David Greely

Well, I've ordered my copy yesterday.

I may have missed it but is it a hard cover/soft cover, big, small,
non-electronic? Inquiring minds want to know! :-)

This book is great, but what was really awesome was David breaking the phrases down at Balfa camp. You can only mimic for sol long, then it's time know what your saying..
