Re: song that really is played in F on a C box: geno's 2 step

I searched on youtube.
It's on French Rockin Boogie.
As far as I can hear, I only hear a G and D chord .
Or my banjo is out of tune :-)

oops... Hey Geno! Geno Delafose

huh
lemme think about that
i may have the wrong song...

you right

it;s this one

Hey Geno!
Geno Delafose | Format: MP3 Music
From the Album French Rockin' Boogie

try that with your F banjo :)

some of the licks actually cannot be played in 2nd position
they are too fast and involve alternating direction and buttons
try to play it in 2nd and you can;t get the alternating directions
very clever song

Re: oops... Hey Geno! Geno Delafose

Yup, there it is on youtube- thats a killer tune.
I reckon 'my little dog' in F would tack onto it nicely- followed by a key change into G. Thats what I'm gonna try anyway.
Thanx for the inspiration.

Re: oops... Hey Geno! Geno Delafose

Am I wrong if I say that it sounds also like Johnny can't dance ?

Re: oops... Hey Geno! Geno Delafose

geno's 2 step - sort of

hey geno - no

Re: oops... Hey Geno! Geno Delafose

Hey Geno! is actually played in second position. On a C accordion,it would be in G. Also, the chord progression is actually G,Am, G,Am, G,Am. This is a very common progression in Geno's music where he goes to the 2 chord instead of the 5 chord. He does this in "Everybody's Dancin'" and in "I'll never see her again" on the Chanson Perdue CD, he goes to the 2 major. In the key of C the progression is C,D,C,G,C.

Anyway, Hey Geno is illustrated in the video below.

Re: oops... Hey Geno! Geno Delafose

hm
well now i am confused
i learned it in F

and i asked geno about it, personally, when he was playing at the olympics in atl in 1996

his answer wasn;t completey clear, but i thought he was saying yes it was in F on a C box

there is an old tradition of the LA players not wanting to give out their secrets

boozoo used to play with his fingers under a cloth if he thought anyone was watching too closely

oh well

Re: oops... Hey Geno! Geno Delafose

If I can get my cam to work, this evening, I will do a quick demo of the accordion and the guitar.

Re: oops... Hey Geno! Geno Delafose

oh
ok but i can tell you are right from the geno video

F it!

Had a stab at 'Hey Geno!' this week and found out for myself it is in 2nd posistion. I reckon it has quite a strong F kind of turn to it. Looking forward to the Ganey demo, I got a lot from the 'horse with no shoes' one.

So the challenge still stills stands to find a 1 row zydeco tune written in F!

One row zydeco song in 3rd position (F)

One of the most popular zydeco single row tunes of all time is in the 3rd position: Why You Wanna Make Me Cry.

Re: One row zydeco song in 3rd position (F)

Geno plays "C'est pas la peine brailler" in the F position and The Creole Zydeco Farmers (I think)did "That ole mule called Shine."

Sometime this evening, I have to go in the studio to make a couple of videos for someone who requested them. I will do some short clips of these tunes, as well, just to illustrate them.
