I'm announcing the March Song of the Month just a little early. Mardi Gras is 2 weeks away and what other song to do for March than the Mardi Gras song.
Now, this should not be an out for working on Bayou Noir.. February is not over.
Great examples of the Mardi Gras song can be found at Neals web site of awesome: http://npmusic.org. Just search for Mardi Gras. I really like Austin Pitres version.
Of course the Balfa Brothers had a great version on the "Plays Traditional Cajun Music" album. If you don't have that - buy it.
On Youtube search for "Mardi Gras Song" or "La Danse de Mardi Gras". Quite a few examples there - though I couldn't find anyone doing an instructional. --- Anybody???
The song is a 1-part played over and over, so it's a good one to work out variations.
There it is. Yall have 2 weeks to work it out before Mardi Gras. Get squeezing. But don't forget Bayou Noir.
I'll also point out a couple of notable birthdays in March.
- March 11. Amede Ardoin. b.1898
- March 20. Dewey Balfa. b.1927
