Here in oz many people throw out their ancient or old pianos & often there are pianos on ebay for 99 cents.
I found for free an American made Palings Victor piano which is very old & the wood throughout it seems very valuable.
So I figure that if anyone was in need of top grade very old woods to build their boxes with then they could simply go around picking up all the old pianos people are throwing out.
Some of the pianos are around a hundred yrs old & have serial numbers that make it easier to date the woods.
It seems like an excellent source of ancient tone woods that are free & have been kept indoors throughout their life & are in top condition.
I've never seen a piano being thrown away, but if I did, I would definitely scavenge it. I don't pass up any opportunity to scavenge nice wood or parts, as my cluttered shop would attest to.
