Fast and furious sometimes is the ticket, but I love when a good player can drag out them long notes. This is one of my favorite Dewey Balfa songs, and his recording is the only version I'd ever heard until this. Jesse slowed it down some. Awesome. Anyone know the history of this song?
In an odd coincidence, I was alternately listening to this video and KRVS, and Shirley Bergeron's "Mama and Papa" came on. Same melody, different words and faster pace.
I don't know about the words, but the tune is an Old-Time tune. Various names are Jack O' Diamonds, Rye Whiskey, and Drunken Hiccups. The tune has been recorded by many, many musicians. Some are slow and some are fast.
Wow, thanks, Jordy. I had listened to that video a couple times and didn't catch that. I love harmonica in Cajun music, and feel it is a dying art. Mr. Isom was the master.
