I'm translating an old Hank waltz into Cajun. Not being Cajun, I'd sure appreciate some correction and suggestions :)

it's import to remember that fitting the syllables into the music is whats important, and that you won't get a direct translation to work that way without it sounding funky because the direct translation wont match up syllable wise, that being said, ill give you some corrections on what you have, and see if you can make it work... It probably wont be direct trans but itll preserve the idea of the song

*pronounced "jsew" almost just "sew" little j sound, one syllable. for future reference, you probably wont hear je suis in cajun french, or maintenant, cajuns say "à cette heur" pronounced (and spelled sometimes) asteur

I based this off the recording I have of this song, which have similar but different first verse lyrics than you wrote. The syllables should match up! Have fun. I love playing Hank tunes. Never translate them, but I love em. There are a number of cajun tunes that were country tunes and were "cajunized" Tous Les Soir is a Kitty Wells tune and Memoires Dans Mon Coeur is the famous making believe by her, J'ai Laissé de la Maison is the same tune as Maiden's Prayer but as a two step, Iry LeJeune redid a country number, etc. Further, most cajun lyrics are like the ones in this Hank song. Learn a good cajun waltz for us :)

The Hank waltz I like to play is "Banks of the old Ponchartrain"
works well.
