Re: Lyrics to Deux Voyages

Is this close to an accurate translation?

They left the country to a great trip.
They crossed the sea with just their courage.
My fathers have left everything for freedom.
There was a king who could not string them together.

I crossed the sea to find my heritage.
In the land of my fathers, in their small village.
How they left this beautiful place, I can not understand.
They risked everything they had for their descendants

Re: Lyrics to Deux Voyages

Thanks for your translation, JB.

"They left the country to a great trip.
They crossed the sea with just their courage.
My fathers have left everything for freedom.
There was a king who could not string them together.

I crossed the sea to find my heritage.
In the land of my fathers, in their small village.
How they left this beautiful place, I can not understand.
They risked everything they had for their descendants"

And now here's the translation in the liner book :

"They left the land to a great journey.
They crossed the sea with only their courage.
My forefathers left everything their liberty.
There wasn't a king who could keep them in chains.

I crossed the sea to seek out my heritage.
To the country of my forefathers, to their little village.
How they left this beautiful place, I can not understand.
They risked everything they had for their descendants".

Maybe Christine Balfa wasn't written this song in French, but in English and translated with an automatic translator.

Marc.

Re: Lyrics to Deux Voyages

Marc,
along this same theme:
there is a song on the 2006 Bonsoir, Catin album 'Bleus a Catin' called
"La Sainte Catherine". Is this an old French song or was it perhaps recently composed? Do you have the lyrics?

Re: La Sainte Catherine

Bingo FB, you're right. It's an old french song and I didn' know (link#1).

Here's the lyrics (on the liner notes) :

Attrapez moi mon sabre,

Re: La Sainte Catherine

Cool, Marc!
Merci!

According to Wikipedia, Sainte Catherine appeared to Joan of Arc.

Trying to find some Cajun music that would work in a church service, and this one would qualify.

So far, " La Toussaint" by David Greely & Steve Riley is the only other one I've found that might work.

If anyone has some other suggestions, they would be welcome.

Re: La Sainte Catherine

"Le temps après fini". Many others but I don't remember.

Re: La Sainte Catherine

Sounds like Old-timey Gospel music, which I guess it is.

Lost Bayou Ramblers
