Cajun Music in FL?

Hey Braves, does any one know if there is any place in central FL to play Cajun Music. I have looked all over and have found nothing. There are Cajun restaurants but they don't have live music. There was a big festival in Ft. Lauderdale but that was two years ago. Maybe some one out here can help.

Re: Cajun Music in FL?

I am amazed that no replies have resulted. In my younger days, I spent a little time along the panhandle, "Red Neck Riviera," and there was always a a Cajun/Zydeco band playing somewhere. (This was before I was a C/Z fan.) There have been festivals in Tampa and on the East Coast, too. Where did they go? I would also strongly suspect Key West to welcome a Cajun song or two.

Re: Cajun Music in FL?

I am originally from Central FLA and there used to be a place in Seminole called Cajun Cafe on the Bayou...or something like that. It was on the Lake Seminole bayou and had cajun bands on the weekends...don't know if it's still around...food was great! Wayne Toups was there one weekend when I was down.

Play some farmers markets and see if you can get some gigs out of that.

Re: Cajun Music in FL?

I have very much the same issue here in Central Oregon. Playing on a corner at the Eugene Saturday Market is looking like the thing. Though I am hooking up with the local Old Time bunch this friday. We'll see what comes of that.

Re: Cajun Music in FL?

Not all venues will get you gigs. We play possibly 10 different markets and venues, and there's only one where we get tend to get bites for outside gigs. And that is the venue with no stipend for the band, and lower tips.

So, never can tell.

There's something here in the bay area called "Off The Grid", where this company finds some amenable large parking area, invites several food trucks, sets up some table and chairs, and schedules bands to play. For tips and a not great guaranteed pay/stipend, but much better than the farmers markets.

If you have extra small washboards or shakers for the kids, it can help things too.
