I have a piano accordion tuned to A444, which I got because it has Binci reeds and I love the sound. But it is hard to play both the piano accordion and my cajun accordion (tuned as usual to A440) on a gig because no one in the band wants to retune every time I change boxes (understandable!). It was semi-acceptable when it was just my wife playing fiddle with me so there was only the fiddle to retune. But we often play with guitar and bass. It is just too far off pitch to sound good without retuning the other instruments. I have thought about having the Cajun accordion retuned to A444. Can anyone tell me how hard/expensive it would be to have it retuned?
Thanks Bryan,
I am in Massachusetts, so options are limited to the Button Box and Arthur Welch at Accordion Connection in New Hampshire, unless I want to ship it to Louisiana. If I want it to continue to sound like a Cajun accordion, how should I describe that?
I would agree, since A440 is the current "modern" standard in US, it would be better all around to retune the Piano box. Then you can go to jams and play with others and not annoy them al the time. :)
