Re: Song of the Month - how much interest

Or.. are you sick of this stupid forum rejecting your posts as "spam"?

Re: Song of the Month - how much interest

I have found SOTM most interesting, but don't post often because I find it difficult to learn a tune in only one month. But I learn from what you guys do & enjoy your comments. I think if some of the more experienced players would join in with examples it would inspire & instruct. I assume that some have tunes they are working on & just can't find time to add the SOTM to their agenda. But regardless of how many responses SOTM gets, I find it interesting. So, what's the song for February?

Re: Song of the Month - how much interest

I agree with Larry C. Sometimes SOTM is a burden, but when time allows, it's worthwhile. I'd like to see more dialog aimed at improving play. If a player shows a weak spot, then someone needs to step up and say "here's the way to fix that...or here's a better way..." and post an instructional clip. Chris Miller has done a great job in dealing with the group as a whole, but the SOTM demonstrates the individual's strengths and weaknesses. A little one-on-one can spread throughout the group, in many cases helping several others who may be just watching.

Re: Song of the Month - how much interest

Okay.. thanks. It was starting to get pretty discouraging. J'ai decourage.

I do wonder where the more accomplished players have gone though. Are they like me - strapped for time and energy? Every now and then I seem to pick a song that brings folks out of the woodwork. I always hope for that.

I also wonder if the difficulty of actually posting on this forum is part of that. I have the technical skills and resources to stand up a forum of great excellence, but would anyone come? Dunno.

I will have the February SOTM posted tomorrow.

(spoiler alert) Hopefully nobody will go down in flames and leave their old aunty praying for their poor soul. :)

Re: Song of the Month - how much interest

Hi John,

I like the SOTM concept and form because I don't know anymore what tune to choose to learn and participate to the SOTM give me a challenge which motivate me to add new tunes in my repertoire. I also like to see how the braves play a same tune in different ways. But, as Nedro said, more discussion about the tune and more accomplish players participation would be fine.

About this "stupid forum", I also gonna be sick to have my message often rejected as spam! I often spend time to think and translate my words and I really get angry when my message is deleted :(

Re: Song of the Month - how much interest

Song of the month is a great subject and I look allways at the videos.
My problem is the lack of time.
So please keep them coming

Re: Song of the Month - how much interest

Time is an issue for many of us. Because of time, I generally won't learn a new song for it, because what time I do have to play is spent improving those I do know, or as lately, trying to get my hole grail of songs, the Perrodin Two step.

Another thing for me, and maybe some others, most of the last few songs are rehashes of previous SOM, and though new to new members, I generally won't redo one that I've recorded before.

I like the idea of the SOM, but time is probably the biggest issue for most, and we just really don't have a lot of people on this forum compared to some.

Re: Song of the Month - how much interest

Now you know just one of the reasons my SOTM would sometimes take me 2 months and a day to get to. And ditto for me on the time thing; ever since I moved out here to the "farm", my life has been cuh-RAZZY! But I still love SOTM; keep'em coming!

I especially like it when you choose songs I don't know; really gives me something to set my sights on.
