Old Hohner 3 stop

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cajun-Tuned-Hohner-antique-accordion-/251890649368

This old Hohner on ebay has got my interest. Can anyone please advise me on it?
Jim Pettijohn did one up similar to this and it sounded great. Not sure if that old fashioned fingerboard would be up to the job. Any thoughts appreciated.

Re: Old Hohner 3 stop

As someone that's fooled around with a handful of these, I wouldn't. I like the prewar boxes but they're definitely a labor of love. Wait around for a while and you'll probably see one with a modern style fingerboard like Jim's. Then you can send it off to someone like Bryan to hotrod it. C is also a bit too common for me when it comes to these older boxes. They have some odd keys that usually show up and those definitely have a very unique sound once you get them back in playing shape.

Re: Old Hohner 3 stop

That sounds like a voice of experience- much obliged.

Re: Old Hohner 3 stop

From the few I've messed with of this era, they have a beautiful old timey sound, but the treble side is very weak, and the bass side very strong.

Re: Old Hohner 3 stop

Unfortunately, it's been worked upon by "others" and de-Hohnerized.

I'd go $100 for it.. max.

BTW there is no such thing as "very unique".
Something is either unique, or it is not. One does not modify a superlative.

Re: Old Hohner 3 stop

Apparently I missed that day in English, but it would seem you also missed a lesson or two regarding social decorum. Thanks again, Pal!

Re: Old Hohner 3 stop

Social decorum has zip all to do with ignorance.
Who wrote the social decorum rule book, butt jointers and their apologists.

Modifying a superlative is similar to using butt joints on an accordion. It shows sloth.

My, aren't we easily offended.
A sure way to remain amongst the "un-learned".
Some folks insist on wearing ignorance like a medal of honor.

I take my licks and learn from it.

And as for not modifying a superlative such as "unique", it was drilled in my school and my home for its duration, not a day. One does not get an education in a single exposure.

You are welcome.

Excuse me, a sphincter says what?

Re: Old Hohner 3 stop

.....So its thumbs down for the Hohner then?

Re: Old Hohner 3 stop

HeyPal Joey.
Who appointed you chief criticizer of all things Cajun? Judging by your statemens you must a cousin for randy4ewe. You two a messed up in the head.

Re: Old Hohner 3 stop

Is simple English "anti Cajun". I know literate Cajuns including a cousin by marriage. She is anything but illiterate.

I am not Anti Cajun. I am pro facts.

Seems we have some sensitive folks who seem to have a prejudice against those who are not "Cajun".

I do not share in that (reciprocal) prejudice.

It's bear to be intelligent, educated, literate, successful, talented, skilled in many things, and still trying to learn.. and share in spite of continued criticism and mis-characterization....a bear to be a bit more worldly than the average. I have faced discrimination for this my entire 6 plus decades.

I'm used to it. And your comments are , at best, insipid compared to others.
