Here are the similar but conflicting lyrics of Hall & Riley:
Joe Hall:
Criminelle, la promesse ça t'as fait, mon cher bébé,
Tu m'as dit, ouais, toi, tu m'aimais.
Prépare-toi, chère, viens me joindre à la maison.
Steve Riley:
Criminelle, ??? ça t'as fait, ???,
Tu m'as dit, ???, tu m'aimais.
Prépare-toi, ??? me joindre à la maison.
??? m'aimer et m'embrasser.
I'm just trying to piece something together as a starting point. Is there a Riley version out there?
Tu m’as dis, ouais, toi tu m?aimas,
Prépar’-toi, chér’, viens me r’joindr’, … la maison,
Prépar’-toi, chér, viens me r’joindr’, à la maison
*I think he made up a word here, mixing and misérable and malheureux to form misheureux.
I mix some versions together whenever I do this one--but one version that no one has posted is what I remember from Rodney LeJeune whenever we recorded together for a cassette for the Texas Folklife Fest-
One thing for sure, this "simple" music dosen't inspire any simple answers. I had no idea how many dramatically different versions could exist. Thanks again to all for the help.
Ron, play all night, stay a little longer, takeoff your shoes, throw 'em in the corner...
