Split the difference - Lafayette is the Mecca of Cajun music. There are a number of atractions nearby, such as Chicot Park (Ville Platte), Avery Island, home of Tabasco Sauce, aviary and gardens (New Iberia), in addition to the many music, food, and beverage venues in the area. Breaux Bridge is a hot spot, particularly for B&B's on the Bayou Teche, or try Arnaudville for the artsy stuff, and Bayou Teche Brewery (beer, food, music). Henderson Swamp for all of the above plus fishing and swamp tours. If you play an instrument, there are jams at various sites. Luthiers such as Tom's Fiddle and Bow in Arnaudville and SOLA violins in Lafayette. Accordions built at Martin Accordions, Scott, Savoy Music Center, Eunice, Falcon Accordions in Duson, and Bon Cajun Accordions in Iota.
You will be within 45 minutes of most Cajun landmarks. East Texas is a day trip from here, as is Baton Rouge.
Don't waste your time in Baton Rouge all they have there is that want to be governor who wants to be president. Travel to Lafayette and you will find all the Cajun Music you want and good Cajun food as well. While your here be sure to visit Martin Accordions off Willow St in Lafayette.
I should clarify my earlier post. I have been to Lafayette, Eunice, Mamou, Ville platte, Crowley, etc., a few times. I am looking to visit other regions such as Lake Charles/East Texas or Baton Rouge/River Road areas. Maybe Thibodeax, Houma also.
