I posted these clips of my girlfriend's g-grandfather. He played a few times in Eunice. He plays a few old ones. Here is the list of tunes he plays:
- Jongle à moi
- La valse de samedi au soir
- Polka
- Perrodin Two-Step
- Bayou Pon Pon
- La valse de grand chemin
- Zydeco Cha-Cha
- Jolie blonde ay-ou toi etait
- J’ai passé devant ta porte
- Les flammes d’enfer
- La valse des Meches
- The Hathaway Two-Step
- La valse des Cherokees
- Mamou Two Step
- La valse de minuit
- La valse quadrille
- The Lake Arthur Stomp
Thank you very much for posting that. I consider the harmonica as traditional as the accordion, and it used to be much more common. I love the sound of a well played harmonica. It is definitely a lost art in La. I hadn't heard of Kermit, thank you again.
Ted, how long ago were those recordings made, and is he still alive. My favorite line, in video #3-
Ancelet-"Really good wind (breath) for a 68 year old"
Cormier-"well, I never smoked, didn't have time for it"
Great Stuff, mesmerising!
It'll take some tongue blocking to play like that, on a 10 hole harp you can get octaves by blocking the holes using the same principles as on the box.
I played harmonica before taking up accordion and during a period of not being able to practice accordion I started picking out tunes on harp whilst walking the dog, its really convenient when you can just keep one in your pocket.
