Phil Menard

Mr. Phil Menard was laid to rest today, in Lake Charles , La. Phil was one of the old time accordion players. He and Ivy Dugas recorded "The Heritage Waltz". He was also one of the founders of the Cajun Music Hall Of Fame in Lake Charles. Years ago, I got a call from Me. Phil, to tell me that I was nominated to the Hall of Fame, and to be looking for a packet in the mail. I never got the packet, I though maybe that there were so many others who should come before me, that I might get it later. After several years went by, it was discovered that the packet wasn't ever mailed. Mr. Phil called me again, to assure me that the packet was mailed this time. On Nov. 11, 2012 I was inducted into the Hall Of Fame. Mr. Phil walked up to me and said " I'm sorry it took this long, you should have been in a long time ago". I answered " Mr. Phil, if it weren't for you, I wouldn't be here today, no apology, instead, thank you". Thank you again Mr. Phil. It will always be an honor, to have my picture hanging on the same wall as yours, and all my other heroes in this music that we love so dearly. Rest in peace my friend.
