Re: FOR SALE - "Shine" Mouton Accordion - KEY OF D - $1300.00

Shine (Lawrence) Mouton passed away in 1998.

Re: FOR SALE - "Shine" Mouton Accordion - KEY OF D - $1300.00

Joanie, do you know what kind of reeds it has? One of the better sounding (to my ears) accordions I'd heard was a Shine Mouton with Hohner reeds.

Re: FOR SALE - "Shine" Mouton Accordion - KEY OF D - $1300.00

Sorry, Brian. I don't know. But I will say, that of the 4 accordions I own, I have always liked the sound of this one the best. Are Hohner reeds stamped with any identifying mark?

Re: FOR SALE - "Shine" Mouton Accordion - KEY OF D - $1300.00

Usually with a T or an H. They have a distinctive sound, I call the Germanic sound (yes, I made that up), and have been actively searching for new reeds that have that sound. Either way, if your D is like the C I tried a while back, someone should jump on that.

Re: FOR SALE - "Shine" Mouton Accordion - KEY OF D - $1300.00

Ahhhh the T stamped Hohner reeds! Some call them Tupelos. Thank you Bryan for bringing them up. Yes, very hard to find, and yes, they do make that "Germanic" sound. Well, that's at least one way to describe the way they sing. I've heard them described as "that sweet sound", "vibrant", "the old sound", etc.

I'd like to add "High Lonesomes" or "Crying Ladies", or maybe even "Steel Angels".

LOL Needless to say, I like me some Hohner "T" reeds. The old timers, both builders and players like them a lot too and they were the "secret weapon" every wise accordion player and maker sought after once those got dam Italian reeds started to take over the market.

Bryan, my question might seem trivial, but then why don't you build your accordions with Hohner reeds?
I'm pretty sure they're still readily available.

I just checked the reeds. No Hs or Ds. Some are stamped Binci, a few are stamped Professional and a number have no marks that I can find.

Re: FOR SALE - "Shine" Mouton Accordion - KEY OF D - $1300.00

If anyone asks, you can tell them they're Binci #1 (a mano). Definitely premium reeds.

Re: FOR SALE - "Shine" Mouton Accordion - KEY OF D - $1300.00

Hohner "T" Reeds are later reeds made in Trossingen Germany.
Earlier "H" reeds were dedicated Hohner reeds.. and preferred.

I have Hohner boxes with "H" only and a couple with "H"" and "T" which was common in the 50s and 60s. I have owned and sold T boxes

Bincis have become the standard.

But a Shine Mouton box with Hohner reeds and slides is my preferred Mouton box... One day I will find another.

Re: FOR SALE - "Shine" Mouton Accordion - KEY OF D - $1300.00

Have you sold the accordeon?

Re: FOR SALE - "Shine" Mouton Accordion - KEY OF D - $1300.00

No. I just posted it on eBay, along with my Falcon.

Re: FOR SALE - "Shine" Mouton Accordion - KEY OF D - $1300.00

Watcha doin JoanieBlon? You lookin to get out of accordion playing completely? Why the big clearing house by selling the Mouton and a Falcon? Are you dropping the whole bit or looking to buy some other brand or different key accordion?

Re: FOR SALE - "Shine" Mouton Accordion - KEY OF D - $1300.00

I am selling all my accordions. I don't play them. Although they are works of art and are lovely to look at sitting in my glass display case, they should be played. I developed a shoulder problem years ago that has kept me from trying to play, even though I eventually recovered from it. I am afraid of causing it to flare up again.

Re: FOR SALE - "Shine" Mouton Accordion - KEY OF D - $1300.00

Well dam, that's disheartening. Did you know that you can will your own body to heal if you think just the right way and tell all those little cells and blood vessels to get to work and do their got dam jobs. I've been informed that we don't have to be victims of life long pain or injury. 1st step...avoid injury and pain. Neither are we doomed to suffer the sickness of our parents and grand parents through heredity. You could try the fiddle or become a Cajun singer maybe. But I'd work on my shoulder physically, mentally, and spiritually and keep at least one accordion for when it eventually healed. The way things are, if you want to buy a Cajun accordion 5 to 10 years from now, it'll be ohhhhhhh about $10,000 depending on which brand you want.

Re: FOR SALE - "Shine" Mouton Accordion - KEY OF D - $1300.00

Did you ever sale the Shine Mouton or is it still available. If you didn't would you please let know. Thank you.

Re: FOR SALE - "Shine" Mouton Accordion - KEY OF D - $1300.00

I did sell the Shine Mouton accordion in D. The only accordion I now have for sale is the Randy Falcon 5 stop in the Key of F. $1800. Free shipping in the Continental USA only.
