Appropriate glue for attaching stop block to the wooden slide in a diatonic
What glue should I used to reattach a stop block to the slide. Stop block is the little block that the stop screws into, and is in turn glued to the slide.
Hide glue seems inconvenient, but I don't want to glue it back in a way that it might break the slide in the future.
Re: Appropriate glue for attaching stop block to the wooden slide in a diatonic
I had a successful repair using TiteBond III. The joint was clamped overnight with a small ViseGrip c-clamp. A piece of cardboard was placed under the clamp foot at the face of the endplate to protect the finish.
However, discussing my re-gluing procedure with accordion builder Ed Poullard, he warned that the joint would be weak because of the glue-on-glue contact. He said the proper repair would require sanding the joint to allow the glue to bond to the wood instead of residual glue. This requires removing the block and performing some pretty delicate sanding work on the slide.
