I can't recommend any certain book because to really learn Cajun French you have to hear it from birth and be able to speak it back to your parents and extended family and friends. But I can say with absolute certainty that the Cajun language is evolving. Evolving into English.
I remember when I was very young, my mom’s parents lived in Lafayette and my grandfather only spoke the Cajun French. My grandmother would have to translate for me. I would like to learn the old Creole French. So I guess I’m 1/2 Coonass. I don’t know which cheek it is. 2015, bought a Martin key of “C” Cajun accordion from Martin Jr. Got the “Big Nicks” dvds to learn the accordion. Live a small town about 50 miles , NW of the city limits of Houston. Anyone near hear play or wants to play the Cajun accordion, contact me on my email. Maybe we can learn and play together ( jam). Near me, a small music store, once a month, has an acoustic jam session. Steve.
