Lyrics to the song "Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez"

Does anyone have the French and English lyrics to the song "Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez"? I would very much like to have a copy. Thanks

Re: Lyrics to the song "Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez"

Who does it? Do you mean the Lawrence Walker song?

Re: Re: Lyrics to the song "Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez"

Hey Neal,
I have a version sung by Zdeco Joe (written by J.Mouton). This version is sung in french. The CD is "the Best Old-Skool Zydeco" dat's ZYDECO

Re: Lyrics to the song "Laissez Les Bon Temps Roulez"

I picked up these lyrics from the Lost Bayou Ramblers cd (they call it Holly Beach). The English version is a free translation! I hope it is the one you're looking for.

Laisse les bons temps rouler

C'est par rapport à ton papa
par rapport à ta maman
que moi j't'après t'amener
mais laisse les bons temps rouler

j'suis parti dans les grandes mèches
les grandes mèches de Holly Beach
Les maringouins c'est après me manger
mais laisse les bons temps rouler

ton papa après arriver
moi j'l'attends sur la galerie
ta maman est après pleurer
les enfants c'est après pleurer

oui les vaches sont pas tirées
et les gams c'est après chanter
les maringouins c'est après me manger
mais laisse les bons temps rouler

(It is because of your pa
It is because of your mom
that I am taking you away
let the good times roll

I'm gone to the big marshes
the Holly Beach marshes
the mosquitoes are biting me
let the good times roll

You dad is arriving
I'm waiting on the porch
You mom is crying
and the children are crying

the cows haven't been milked
and the game are singing
the mosquitoes are biting me
let the good times roll)

Thanks Cajunic,
I don't know if this is the same one. I'll have to listen to it when I get home. I'll let you know. Thanks again.

Nicole, in case you were wondering what a gam was, it is a rooster.

Bryan Lafleur

gam

Could it come from the English "game birds"? It would make sense, hey?
Nicole

Re: gam

Sounds as likely as anything. I have been pretty intrigued with the development of our vocabulary. I usually dont know unless someone tells me which words are not standard french.

A plus tard,
Bryan Lafleur

Re: Re: gam

Are you from Louisiana, Bryan?

I am intrigued by your last name, Lafleur.

There are many Lafleur here in Québec, I have a friend who plays stand up bass. There is also a famous ice hockey player from here named Guy Lafleur.

I have search in my ancestry to find someone linking me to Cadian people, but Pierre Blanchette came directly from France to Canada... anyway, I am always intrigued and charmed when I find common names up here and down there...

Re: Re: Re: gam

I am from the Mamou/Ville Platte area of Louisiana. Lafleur is a very common name in that area. My dad traced the Lafleur name from Louisiana to France but I dont remember what part of France. Most people in the Mamou/Ville Platte area have little if any Acadian ancestory, which comes as a surprise to most, as it did to me.
